I had the best time this past weekend. With everything going on (or not as the case may be), I really needed a treat and a pick me up. I had already planned a virtual pamper session on Saturday evening with a couple of friends, but as it were, decided to have an at home spa day. I had a full day of taking care of everything from head to toe – my mind, body and spirit. Without a doubt it was the best day ever – a brand woman emerged – ready to take on the world once again.

From apps to music to scents, if you are looking for something soothing for your mind, body and spirit, read on for 10 of my go to’s that support my wellness.

Abide App

My friend introduced me to this App years ago for Biblical meditation during my personal devotion. My husband and I love it, and regularly use it first thing in the morning and again just before bed. It’s great to fall asleep to Christian meditation.

Cosy Robe

I can literally live in my robe all day! I love to feel snuggled up first in the morning and before bed – although to be honest it can be anytime of the day! I really don’t mind!

Cosy Slippers

I have hard floors in my house without a rug in sight in our main living areas. Cosy slippers give my feet some comfort and keep them warm.

Dry Body Brush

Dry body brushing has become a ritual in my self-care routine. Among the many benefits of dry body brushing including stimulating the lymphatic system, encouraging blood flow, reducing the appearance of cellulite and preventing ingrown hairs, it is also a great exfoliant. What’s there not to love?

Epsom Salts

I hardly ever take a bath – but when I do, I will have my epsom salts on stand by. They are rich in magnesium and have so many benefits including inducing sleep, soothing sore muscles, relieving pain, eliminating toxins and more.

Exercise

We all know that exercise is great for the body, but it’s also great for mental wellbeing. In these times like these exercising is particularly crucial to get our feel good hormones (endorphins) going. I am not doing anything particularly strenuous at present. I am particularly enjoying this 10 minute pilates workout by Lottie Murphy and any of Lucy Wyndham-Read’s workouts. Walking daily is also a great option.

FOOD

There’s no denying that food contributes to our wellness. Although I don’t always eat well (albeit I should try harder), I tend to practice intermittent fasting (16:8) on particular days, when I want my body feel great. To fill my body with foods that make me feel lighter and less bloated I stick to drinking loads of water and herbal teas and eat mostly a pescatarian diet. I typically start the day off with a glass of lemon water, followed by a green smoothie. I’ll eat some nuts as a snack and  lunch and dinner will tend to either comprise of a vegetarian meal (like soup or a large salad with sweet potatoes or quinoa) or  half a plate (or bowl) of vegetables (salads, stir fried or steamed) and a piece of fish (salmon is my fave).

Lavender

I love the smell of lavender. Essential oils, pillow spray, sleeping balm and even an eye mask – name it, I’ve got it. Lavender makes me very calm and get’s me to sleep – fast!

Music

I am a complete music lover. For some reason I can’t stand the typical spa music. I tend to play stick to songs that I know. Somi is a fantastic music artist who blends jazz and African music. She’s a genius! Listening to her is very soothing whilst having a bath or long shower.

Skincare

A wellness day is not compete without a great skincare routine. Bring out the turban, facial steamer (I really need to get one – I do it the old school way) and lather your more expensive products for maximum goodness and a true home facial experience.
